Promoting Your Passion with Web 2.0

This month’s focus for Internet Marketing Hot List is all about using Social Media to promote your online business. Recently the world all saw how powerful web 2.0 can be in promoting a social cause and political  change when the Iranians used Twitter to let the world see the violence that was happening in their country.

People outside of the country were deeply affected and tried to help as best they could by “retweeting” the images and messages they were getting halfway across the world.

It remains to be seen how the story in Iran will end but the whole point of this blog post is to show Read the rest of this entry »

Choosing a Good Niche Free Download

Newcomers to internet marketing who use a business model creating and marketing niche sites and blogs can sometimes encounter problems researching and finding a good niche. That’s why I created this month’s download available to subscribers of my free newsletter, Internet Marketing Hot List. I’ve had so much fun putting it together that I’ve decided to do a series with Part 2 coming in my July newsletter. The best part about it is that it’s free and useful content!

In the free download, I’ve covered the three simple steps to finding and researching niches so that you can learn how to do it yourself. And I’ve also included 3 niches that are pretty good bets right now along with keywords to use. You can take the research I’ve done and go a little deeper with it or just use what I’ve already done for you to create a profit-making niche blog or website.

In July, I’m going to show you how to use social media to promote your niche site or blog. You won’t get June’s download in July’s newsletter so if you’re interested, you better sign up now.

When you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll also get the ebook “Your Profitable Online Biz Book” where I explain, from beginning to end, all the practical aspects of starting an online biz. Things like how to get a domain name and hosting account, how to set up your website or blog and how to promote it. But you’ll also get a link in your welcome email to June’s download so that you won’t miss out on the latest info.

If you’re interested in signing up, you can do so on my blog or sign up on my Simple Internet Strategies website.

Stompernet Free SEO Course

I wish I had take the Stompernet free 7 part course 4 years ago when I was just starting out. I would be so much further along in building my online business and wouldn’t have wasted time on so many useless tasks that a lot of internet marketing beginners get caught up in.

The problem with doing business online is that the methods commonly used by search engines to rank sites are constantly changing. So there’s no way to pin down the methods that work to get your site at the top of the search engines. Maybe that’s why the community of internet marketers is so fascinated by the whole seo business. But that’s another topic altogether….

What Stompernet does so well is take all these theories and myths that people have come up with in regard to search engine optimization and test them to see if they’re true.

What you end up with are tried and true methods to get your site ranking highly and performing well in terms of converting visitors to paying customers.

“SEO Mythbusters” is what this 7 part course should be called and that’s why it’s so valuable. It can save you lots of time and tears in trying to test all the SEO theories out for yourself. Plus, you get access to Stomping the Search Engines 2 just for opting in to a subscription for the Net Effect for only a dollar! 30 days to try it out and see if it’s worth the money. And believe me, it is.

Here’s just a small list of things I’ve learned since subscribing to The Net Effect:

  1. How to design your layout so that your visitors will be more likely to buy. Use product images that are of a consistent size. Repeat colors and font styles. Use clean horizontal and vertical lines and keep your product labels and thumbnails close together in the layout.
  2. How to dominate the search engines for the profitable keywords your competition is ignoring.
  3. The 7 Step Action Plan for Top Ranking on the Search Engines
  4. How to get Free Traffic on Twitter
  5. The On and Off-page factors that get your site ranked highly in the search engines.

There’s tons more stuff on the STSE2 and anyone who’s serious about internet marketing should at least try it out. How can you go wrong for free ???

John Reese’s latest venture, Opportunity.com ,  is as big as the new Star Trek movie!

Ha! Well, maybe not quite. I couldn’t resist cashing in on the Star Trek buzz. ;-)

But seriously, in the “how to make money from home” field that’s crowded with launches every other week; so many, in fact, that it’s hard to choose and even harder to distinguish one from the other, John Reese’s Opportunity.com is worth the investment for people who want to learn how to make money on the internet.

For many people entering the affiliate marketing field to make money from home, and for many more that have been in awhile, there’s all kinds of mythology about the best way to do affiliate marketing. Even with all the ebooks out there about how to do it, I firmly believe that the authors of these ebooks are keeping their real profitable affiliate marketing secrets to themselves. Make Money Online with Offline Biz

What are some internet marketing strategies for a local offline business? You know, the traditional “bricks and mortar” storefront?

Can you think of any? Sure you can, if you’ve spent any time at all studying internet marketing.

In fact, you could probably say that you know more than the average offline business owner and could even be considered an expert!

So who cares?  Did you know that there’s a gold mine of untapped profit available to you right now in this new and virtally competition-free market?  All you have to do is approach your local “bricks and mortar” businessperson with your IM knowledge and expertise and offer to market their business online.

Offline Biz has figured this out and is offering a membership site to people who want to learn more about how to do this new business model.

Getting local businesses ranked on the major search engines is not hard to do. All it takes is a little backlinking strategy, SEO and social media marketing to get some results.

But it would take most local business owners weeks, months or years to know how to do this, much less even know what you’re talking about. And yet they know that the internet is here to stay and they have to start using it if they want to compete in today’s marketplace, no matter what business they’re in.

Most smart business people know they need to hire a professional to do the jobs they don’t have the time or knowledge to do themselves. Remember, they already have a business to run without having to learn and develop a whole new skill set.

Ok, so if you’re like any other average computer geek, the reason you got into online marketing to begin with is because you didn’t want to deal with people, right?

Well, that’s how Offline Biz can help you. The resources on their site teach you how to approach those offline business owners and show them what it is you can do for their business online. If you follow their instructions, chances are you’ll only have to do the uncomfortable stuff once. After that, you’ll have all the clients you need just from word of mouth!

Twitter Guides, Tips and Twits

Twitter guides are all over the internet and frankly, I find them to be very annoying.

I mean, come on, how hard is it to use Twitter? It’s a simple process to create an account and find friends. Simply do a search for people you know or those with whom you share an interest. Then, click the “follow” button.

True, some people are using Twitter to promote their businesses and that’s cool. I use it for that purpose as well so I can’t be critical of that.

What I find truly curious are the people who have written guides about using Twitter. Yes, I know, there are many apps that can make navigating Twitter a lot easier and more lucrative but I just don’t get it. People are obsessed with Twitter.

When I first started using, I admit that I was a little obsessive about it myself. Updating every hour or so and looking at other people’s updates. Clicking on the links in their status,…yeah, you know what I mean.

But I am online to do some work, after all, so now I’ve gotten to the point where I just update once a day or so. That’s probably not enough but I have work to do! I can’t spend all my time on Twitter!

Okay, so you might still want a Twitter guide to help you figure it all out and make it work for you. My most favorite is Mashable’s Twitter Lists . If that’s not enough for you, simply do a search and you’ll find plenty of guides that pretty much cover the same information.

Personally, I am not an Ashton Kutcher pretender looking to have a million followers. Frankly, who cares? It’s so high school.

I choose my followers very carefully and this is from someone who does not follow everyone who follows me.

So here’s my own little Twitter guide and tips on what I look for in a good “follow”.

Shared interests, a humble person (no mention of being  an internet marketing genius or lifestyle coach), and someone who is truly interesting.

They must have a real web page or blog in their url. I hate it when I check someone’s url in their profile and they have a link to an affiliate  program. What?

They also have to have a real picture, not that goofy Twitter default brown graphic. Sorry, I don’t follow brown graphics.

And don’t be a Twitter twit…someone who’s just chasing the numbers and could care less about who you are and why they are following you.

SEO Tips for your Website

Here are some tips for search engine optimization of your website. These suggestions are not the only steps you should take but it’s a start.

First, remember to have good content, the most important thing of all to every search engine. They’ve got to have something to crawl, after all, so make sure it’s valuable and interesting to the both your visitor and search engine spider.

The 2 major search engines approach importance of keywords in SEO differently. Yahoo wants to see relevant keywords in the page title and title tags of a page. They also want to see keywords in the right density and included in the header tags of your page. Yahoo also takes note of keywords that are bold and italicised.

Google is the exact opposite. While on-page criteria is important to them, it’s not as important as getting as many backlinks to your site as possible from authority sites in your niche.

So how can you use this knowledge of how Google and Yahoo do SEO for your benefit? It’s likely that you will rank higher in Yahoo faster than you will in Google because the SEO factors are  a lot easier to control. In other words, it’s a lot easier to meet Yahoo’s high page rank standards than it is to meet Google’s. Concentrate on ranking with Yahoo first, then a high Google rank will naturally follow once you start promoting your page with article marketing, social media and PPC.

Your domain name can also affect your site’s SEO. Here are some guidelines for choosing your domain name:

  • Make sure you use keyword phrases with multiple keywords in them.
  • Use 17 characters or less
  • No hyphens
  • .com is always better than .org, .net or .biz

Ok, so you’ve decided to invest  a little time and money into building an online business but you have no idea what to do or where to start.  Simply jumping online and doing a search on Google is probably not the best way to go since there are just as many people wanting to take your money and run as there are who genuinely want to help.

I know what it’s like because I’ve been there myself. And I’ve learned a lot these last 4 years so that I can pass this valuable information on to you.

That’s why I created this blog and my website, Simple Internet Strategies. To help people find their way online and avoid all the scammers.

So, if you’re wondering, “now what?”, here’s what you’ve got to do first.

Decide what you want to do online to make money.  Do you want to sell hard goods? Hold an inventory of products and sell from your online store? There are a couple of options you can choose from including dropshipping to building a niche store on Ebay or Amazon.

Do you want to build websites for other people? Don’t let your lack of technical knowledge stop you. It’s possible to learn quickly and build great sites for other people who just don’t have the time to do it themselves.

Do you want to create content by writing or making videos? If there’s one thing needed online right now, it’s quality content and there are lots of people who will pay good money for you to create it.

Do you want to build a website for your own business and make money with adsense or affiliate programs? That’s probably the best way to get started learning how to make money online.

No matter what you’ve decided to do, I’ve written an ebook that walks you through the process of starting your own business online. It’s free and available to download here: Your Profitable Online Biz Book. It comes as a free gift when you subscribe to my newsletter. In the book, you’ll learn how to choose a niche, a domain name and a hosting company. You’ll also learn about all the different programs available to you so you don’t have to risk searching for it online without a guide.

My newsletter is an added bonus. It serves as an extension of the learning process you’ll begin by reading the ebook. Business on the internet is constantly evolving and that’s what I cover in my newsletter. I’ll be keeping you up to date with what’s happening online as you get busy building your online business.

Capitalizing in a Tough Economy

It’s no secret that times are tough. People are losing their homes, losing their jobs and losing their long term savings and retirement plans to market conditions that are simply out of their control.

There are also many financial  “gurus”  that are telling people not to take their money out of the stock market because this is just a temporary downturn. That it’s all going to start turning around in a few years.

I am not a financial expert so please take my advice in this area with a grain of salt. But I believe that our economy is fundamentally changing. With all the government regulation that’s coming down in a few months or years and in some cases, already here, you would have to be really naive to think that the old ways of making money are going to survive.

But there are still opportunities in this difficult market. The investors who will come out on top in a few years are those who are watching where the money is going and making a plan to capitalize on it.

If you’re going to invest in the stock market, at least recognize that it’s a gamble. I’ve always heard that if you’re going to gamble, make sure you can afford to lose the money you are going to invest.

Look for investment opportunities in markets that have a physical product like real estate (there are some great bargains out there). With the auto market in turmoil, the used car market could be huge in a few years. Already people are choosing to fix their old cars instead of buying new ones. Where can you capitalize in that market?

Look for trends in the marketplace. One very good place to go is Trendwatching where you can see how consumers are behaving and what they are buying in a variety of industries.

One very good place  to put your money is to invest in yourself. Take a course that will increase your professional marketability or prepare yourself for a whole new career with another college degree. I have an architect friend who got certified in “green” building technologies recently when building construction started to slow down. Now he’s prepared for all the construction projects that are hopefully going to materialize once the stimulus plan projects begin.

Online business opportunities are also available. Who knows, you could come up with the next ebay or amazon. Business is still humming along in this new global economy and the internet is where we can all connect.  You just have to be creative about finding your place in it.

Increasing website traffic seems to be one of the most talked-about topics on internet marketing forums, blogs and websites. Everyone and their mother seems to have an opinion on the best way to increase website traffic. And if the newbie has a lot of time on their hands, they could probably find all they need to know after 6 months or a year of building their online business.

Or they could read James Gladwin’s Ultra Simple Web Traffic Secrets in an hour and follow a proven system of techniques that will  increase traffic to their website, fast and easy.

Most of the information in this ebook is well-known by most people who have already been building an online business for years. The problem is that no one is taking the time to share it with the newbie and so they have to lurk on a lot of forums to find the information that is so readily available in Ultra Simple Web Traffic Secrets.

I’ve been lurking on internet marketing forums and websites since 2005 and even I found some things I didn’t know to do simply because I haven’t had time to search this information out. Techniques like how to create a podcast, what equipment you need to create an mp3 recording and help in creating a compelling signature line for posting on forums. You can also find resources to help you offer your own software as a product or giveaway to build your list.

I will say that this ebook is not for someone who’s been doing internet marketing for a long time. But if you are just starting out, it’s a great way to get a running start on building traffic to your website or blog.

If you have an online business, you should be concerned about internet laws and regulation. I thought all I had to do was make sure I had a privacy statement and a disclaimer-disclosure statement on my sites and blogs. But come to find out, there is so much more to internet law and ignorance is NOT an excuse according to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission).

If you don’t believe me, just ask Frank Kern, one of the most successful internet entrepreneurs online today. He found out the hard way about the importance of knowing internet regulation and protecting your online business.

Not knowing internet law and then getting caught doing something wrong, even if you didn’t relize you were doing something wrong, can mean jail time and/or up to a million dollars in fines according to Shawn Casey.

He’s the creator of Internet Business in a Box and is also a lawyer. He knows what he’s talking about and has all kinds of horror stories about what can happen if you ignore internet regulations. He suggests these 10 commandments for Internet Business Owners:

  1. Always have a Terms of Use agreement and have a hyperlink to it on every single page of your website.
  2. Always have a Privacy Policy hyperlinked from every single page of your website.
  3. Always have a Puchase Agreement on your website if that applies to your business model.
  4. Be careful of the income claims that you make on your website.
  5. Be careful when using results claims on your website.
  6. Never give misleading or deceitful information on your website.
  7. Never supply erroneous content on your website. Protect yourself from honest mistakes with your Terms of Use.
  8. Do NOT promote pyramid schemes, ponzi schemes or chain letter schemes on your website. They are illegal!
  9. Never advertisie a product or service as a “cure” for an illness.
  10. Comply with the US CAN-SPAM Act. This governs all business emails to or from US residents.

To make sure you are compliant, you can do a search online to find these legal protections for your website then all you have to do is read them and then insert onto all your websites  and blogs. You can also consult a lawyer to do it for you. That will save you time but not money.  Shawn Casey has also put together an Internet Law Compliance System that makes it easy to update your online businesses so that it’s compliant.

It doesn’t matter how you choose to do it. The important thing is to educate yourself on these legal protections and then implement them wherever you do business online.

Publish Ebook and Make Money Online

A great idea to make money online is to publish ebook.  Don’t be intimidated by this; it’s a lot easier than you think.

If you’re considering starting a website or blog based on a niche that you know a lot about, writing and publishing an ebook that contains all your knowledge is a no-brainer. Your website or blog can be the main method that you use to sell your ebook.

Taking it a step further, you can go to Clickbank and submit it to their catalog and then other people can sell it for you on their website or blog. That’s what you call passive income! They would in effect become your affiliates. Signing up through Clickbank is a good way to avoid the headaches of returns and managing affiliate payments.

However, if you do choose to market your ebook through Clickbank, you will be giving up some portion of the purchase price to them as your affiliate manager.

One way to avoid that and still make as much if not more money is to allow your affiliate’s to keep 100% of the price of your book. There’s an ebook out there can help you set up this kind of a system. It’s called  7 Dollar Secrets. It explains all the reasons why you would want to sell your ebook this way and how to do it, including scripts for setting up your website and paypal system.

coversmall_7dsecrets

If you have no idea what type of ebook you would want to write, check into some trends that are really popular right now. Looking at Google Trends can help you get started researching topics. Check Clickbank to see if there are any products that fit the popular products. If it’s a popular trend for websites and people are searching for products they can sell with that niche, you’ll have a market for your ebook.

PPC optimization for affiliate marketing….the answer to all your frustrations with promoting affiliate programs.

Let’s face it…marketing an affiliate program sounds like the easiest way to go when trying to make money online.  Just put up a website and start promoting, right?  Well, that’s one way to do it.It’s cheap but it takes a lot of time.

And when you’re trying to make money online, slow just doesn’t cut it.

The other faster, more foolproof , more expensive method is to start a PPC program that sends your customers straight to the sales page of the affiliate marketing program you’re promoting.

It’s expensive because as a beginner, you probably don’t know a lot about it and you’re going to waste a lot of money (and time) learning how it’s done.

If you don’t want to waste money and time, you’ve got to make sure your PPC campaign is as efficient as possible. And knowing what’s the most profitable affiliate marketing program to promote and the best keywords to use in your campaign is the key to your success.

But how do you compete with other internet marketers who’ve been doing this a lot longer than you have and are selling the same product?

It sure would be nice to have an affiliate marketing training guide to explain how all this works. And I’ve found one that explains all the secrets and it’s free.

But once you hear how it’s done, you’ll probably want to invest in the software program that Brad Callen has developed called the Affiliate Elite system.

Once you click on that link, you’ll get an opportunity to sign up for his free affiliate marketing guide and learn exactly how he does PPC optimization for his affiliate programs. You’ll learn how he picks out the best affiliate programs to promote and what those stats on Clickbank really mean.

He’ll also tell you how to find out who’s your strongest competitor and what keywords they’re using to promote the best-selling affiliate programs. And how you can test out the ads they’re running without spending a dime of your own money.

In his free affiliate marketing guide, he shows you exactly how he does it and you can copy his techniques.

Or if you decide you want to make money fast, you can simply purchase the software he’s created that does it all for you in minutes.

You really can’t go wrong by checking out his free affiliate marketing guide. If you’ve got more time than money, you could probably figure out how to do it on your own. It’s up to you!

How to Make Fast Money

Want to know how to make fast money? I literally stumbled on this deal while reading my Twitter follows.

Whenever I get a “so and so’s following you on Twitter” email, I always check out the website they have in their profile for a couple of reasons. First, I don’t like following Twitter spammers. But that’s a topic for another blog post. And second, you never know what you’ll learn from someone else’s website.

So, I don’t know who’s Twitter page I found this on but it’s an awesome deal. First of all, you get an “internet business in a box“. All kinds of great products that people are using to make fast money online.

But not only that, this dude is giving away all kinds of freebies that will help you a lot if you’re a beginner. Or even someone who’s been around a while.Once you sign up for the free Internet Business in a Box, you’ll get free downloads (PDF and mp3) like

  • Automatic Internet Cash
  • Secrets of Info Products
  • Make $1000 in 48 Hours

There are others but I can’t remember them all. He does have an ulterior motive for giving away all this free stuff. There is that whole thing about wanting to ‘give back’ (and I totally believe him once you hear his story) but he wants you to join his membership site, too. Don’t worry, he’s got even more tons of free offers for that as well.

I’m not going to tell you that you should buy any of his products or join his membership site. Heck, the fewer people who know this stuff, the more opportunity there is for serious internet marketing business builders.

But if you are looking for how to make fast money, the freebies alone in this internet business in a box offer will go a long way towards that.
